I always loved learning about my French heritage from my grandfather, Opa. He spoke of our family ties to New Orleans with such wonder. My first visit was for a family reunion in 2003. I was enamored by the lushness, the warmth of the people, and the soul that lingers in the air.
I left Chicago as fast and I could. In 2010, I attended Loyola University New Orleans, following my passion for Graphic Design. After attending art school in Florence, Italy for a year, I returned to NOLA for my senior year. I met a guy named Dave at a party and we quickly became very close friends.
For a few years I pin-balled between New Orleans, Wyoming and Chicago, but found my way back to NOLA in 2017.
Upon my return, Dave and I became thick as thieves. As our friends started to get married, we developed a pact: if we were single, we would be each others plus ones. In 2019, Dave’s friends Patrick and Sarah were getting married. During the reception, I moseyed my way to the glitter bar where I met the bride’s friend, Karina. We hit it off immediately.
One pandemic later, Dave, Patrick, Sarah and I were spending the weekend in Mississippi when I learn that Karina was on her way with her brother, Jeremy.
After that weekend, Karina and I became closer and closer. And in turn, I was hanging out with Jeremy more and more. I had developed a crush, though I never thought he would be interested. Maybe I could find a guy like Jeremy…
