a ‘lil something extra

The wedding venue, New Orleans Botanic Gardens, houses 15 sculptures by Enrique Alférez. Native to Mexico, Alférez found New Orleans while driving way home after studying at Loredo Taft’s Eagle’s Nest Artist Colony, in Oregon, Illinois.

Alférez became one of New Orleans' most prolific civic artists, directing the WPA's local sculpture program in the 1930s and partnering with the city and its architects to fill parks and public landmarks, most enduringly City Park, with the sculptures, fountains, and reliefs that still shape the city today.

Oregon, Illinois also happens to have very special connection to Blair’s family. Since 1898, Blair’s family has had a spot on the Rock River, just downstream from Loredo Taft’s Artist Colony. Blair spent most weekends there growing up.

Our Save The Date artwork depicts Jeremy’s favorite flower, a Cajun Hibiscus, which grows in our front yard. Blair painted the flower with the watercolor set her late grandmother, a watercolor artist, arranged to gift to her on her birthday after she had passed away, with a note saying “Paint pretty pictures for Nana”.

Blair’s cousin, Drake, came to visit last spring and photographed our engagement at our house.
